Chelsea: Exciting deadline day update emerges at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are set for a “really busy” deadline day, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

New owner Todd Boehly has spent more than £240m since the transfer window opened, but the Blues are believed to still be in the market for further reinforcements.

Chelsea’s miserable start to the season continued against Southampton on Tuesday as Thomas Tuchel’s side slipped to a second defeat in three games, which leaves them ninth in the Premier League.

The 2-1 defeat highlighted the Blues’ need for reinforcements at both ends of the pitch, with the Londoners scoring just six goals and conceding eight times in less than eight hours of action.

Chelsea have already signed the likes of Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana to improve their defensive options, although Raheem Sterling remains their only attacking addition.

Tuchel said earlier this week that he’s hoping for multiple players to arrive before tonight’s 11pm deadline and Phillips is therefore expecting a busy day at Stamford Bridge, with both incomings and outgoings.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’ve been told again that Chelsea are in for a really busy day today and are expected to be one of the busier teams in terms of both outgoings and arrivals.”

Chelsea’s priority in recent weeks has been to sign a striker before the window closes and Tuchel is finally on the verge of getting his wish.

According to The Athletic, they’re close to an agreement with Barcelona for the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the Blues offering around £6.5m plus Marcus Alonso going in the opposite direction.

The report claims that the deal is moving towards its conclusion and it’s likely that he’ll become a Chelsea player before the window slams shut.
