Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino breaks silence on Mason Mount to Manchester United transfer

New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is not dwelling on Mason Mount's departure as he plans for life without the now Manchester United midfielder.

Mount completed his move to United this week, joining for an initial £55million with a possible £5m due in add-ons. The England international was one of Erik ten Hag's leading targets and has been handed the number seven shirt at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old said upon arriving at United that he had known for a while that he didn't feature in Chelsea's future. "Several months ago, it became clear I wasn't in Chelsea's plans going forward and once I knew United were involved my decision was made up," he told MUTV.

But Pochettino, appointed in June, would not be drawn on whether he would have liked the midfielder to still be at Stamford Bridge.

He said: "When I talk about the future, it's about the players that are here and the players we can maybe add to the squad. He's a Manchester United player now. For sure he loved the club but I don't know what happened in the past. I think we need to be focused on our players, the players who are committed to the club and move and try to build a nice story."

The Chelsea boss added: "What I found from day one, the players were very open. The attitude is amazing, we have quality, we are going to add more quality. I think when you finish the season you need to move. There is no point to look backwards. I am a positive person, I can always see the positive things."
