Manchester United set to appoint Arsenal medical boss Gary O'Driscoll

Manchester United are set to appoint Arsenal's head of medical services Gary O'Driscoll as a replacement for club doctor Steve McNally.

O'Driscoll is set to take up the post at Old Trafford later this summer, having spent 14 years working at Arsenal where he is a well-known and popular figure.

The 52-year-old is from the north west and reportedly came close to joining Liverpool in 2020, before Mikel Arteta convinced him to stay at the Emirates.

But United have now convinced O'Driscoll to return north and take up a similar role at Old Trafford to the one he has held for so long at Arsenal.

The club have been looking to fill a vacancy since Steve McNally left the club in December 2022. He was initially replaced by former Liverpool doctor Jim Moxon, who held an interim role.

That allowed United to spend longer headhunting a replacement and in O'Driscoll they have landed one of the most well-regarded and popular medics in the game.

O'Driscoll joined Arsenal in 2009 and had worked in rugby previously, including as the lead doctor on two British and Irish Lions tours.
