Chelsea: Boehly 'hoping to give' Tuchel one thing at Stamford Bridge

Incoming Chelsea owner Todd Boehly will be looking to give Thomas Tuchel a transfer war chest, claims insider Pete O’Rourke.

While O’Rourke is not too sure if the west London club will spend the kind of money they did under Roman Abramovich going forward, he still expects Tuchel to be backed this summer.

A consortium led by LA Dodgers part-owner Boehly is set to take over Chelsea possibly before the end of the month.

“Chelsea Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjoerg Wyss, to acquire the Club,” the Blues’ official website recently announced.

According to the Evening Standard, the Premier League are confident that Chelsea’s takeover will be completed before their May 31 deadline as the Europeans champions wait for government approval and an owners and directors’ test to be carried out.

The above comes after Abramovich announced in March that he would be selling the club, with the oligarch recently being sanctioned by the UK government following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

O’Rourke thinks Boehly will look to back Tuchel in the upcoming transfer window, with defence likely to be a priority for the German given the impending departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who are both out of contract at the end of the season.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the football journalist said: “I think there will be certain areas of the team that Thomas Tuchel will be looking to strengthen, especially in defence with Rudiger and Christensen both leaving, but I’m not sure if they’ll have the funds that they did when Abramovich was the owner.
