Cheeky Manc requests Metrolink name change - and succeeds... sort of

A cheeky request from a commuter has led to a major Metrolink station being renamed... sort of.

John Ossoway asked Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) if they could rename the ‘Cornbrook’ stop because his phone autocorrects the name. “It's time for TfGM to rename the Cornbrook metrolink stop to "cornbread" because that's what my phone always autocorrects the name to,” he tweeted last night (August 3).

And this morning, John was granted his wish. “Ask and you shall receive, John!,” TfGM replied.

They showed the signage had been altered to say ‘Cornbread’ on both the station’s main entrance and platforms, which serve seven Metrolink lines. The station sits in both zone one and two.

Dspite the very-convincing photos, all is not as it seems. TfGM has confirmed to the M.E.N. that the images are very skillful photoshops, and not real-life photographs.

That hasn’t stopped another passenger having a go at changing the name of another Metrolink station though. Andrew P tweeted a photo of another Metrolink station.

He has altered a sign at Bess O’ Th’ Barn, in zones three and four in Bury, to say Bess O’ Th’ Barm. “Excellent! I wonder how many more we can get,” replied Metrolink to Andrew’s effort.
