Chatham Town Women’s league campaign ended with a 3-0 away win against Luton Town – now they wait for Sutton United clash in the Combined Counties Cup quarter-final

Chatham Women bounced back from their Kent Cup final loss with a win to round off their league campaign - but the action’s not over yet.

Keith Boanas side are still in the Combined Counties Cup and have yet to play their quarter-final match at Sutton United. The wait for that game goes on, with Wycombe Wanderers awaiting the winners.

That cup match is expected to be played on a midweek evening, week commencing May 11.

“We are going to keep them ticking over,” said the Chats boss.

“It’s going to be after our end-of-season presentation on May 9 and there are one or two going away.

“I made it very clear before the Kent Cup final that the fringe players would take part in that cup, no matter what, even it’s a weaker side, but even some of those might be away!”

Chatham’s defeat to Dartford last Thursday was a blow, but they bounced back with a 3-0 win at Luton Town on Sunday, and have secured third place in National League Division 1 South East.

Boanas said: “You’re looking for a response and even before the game we had a long chat in the dressing room as we hadn’t really reviewed the Thursday.

“They knew how I felt as I had already written to them on their group chat. One of them had already written up on the white board in the changing room about character and bravery. It was better late than never.

“We changed the team around a bit and gave as many as I could at least 30 minutes because it was our last league game.

“We did okay on what was a really poor surface, really hard, we were dreading injuries, the ball was bobbling, you could see the girls were hesitating on challenges as they feared what could happen but we dealt with it really well, nicked a good goal just before half-time and consolidated it in the second half.”
