Ex-Gillingham goalkeeper Glenn Morris, 42, joins National League South club Dorking Wanderers

Former Gillingham goalkeeper Glenn Morris has a new club.

Morris will continue his career in non-league football with National League South outfit Dorking Wanderers.

The 42-year-old made 136 appearances over two spells at Priestfield, winning two player-of-the-year awards.

Gillingham confirmed he would be leaving Priestfield this summer and he follows Dover forward George Nikaj in moving to Meadowbank.

“We are delighted that an established professional like Glenn has chosen to join Dorking Wanderers,” manager Marc White told his club website.

“He’s a Football League goalkeeper who, in my opinion, should still be playing in the EFL, and he comes to us off the back of an outstanding season at Gillingham.

“I believe Glenn’s experience, leadership and quality will contribute hugely to the group, and I’m flattered that Dorking will be the first club outside the EFL in his career.

“I’m confident Glenn Morris has the potential to be the standout signing of our summer transfer window.”

Morris, who also made more than 250 appearances for Crawley, said: “I had contact from the manager and Dean (Lightwood, goalkeeper coach), who I have worked with before, and it really excited me, and I’m pleased to get it done.

“I’ve obviously been through quite a few different experiences and if I can help the lads in any way, then I will, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well.”

Dorking reached the play-off semi-finals last season, losing to Torquay, and have Kent clubs Dover, Ebbsfleet, Folkestone, Maidstone and Tonbridge for company in National League South.
