Chatham Town take on Chichester City in the Isthmian Premier Division after a 4-1 weekend home loss against St Albans City
Chatham Town are on their travels tonight as they look to put a big weekend defeat behind them.
Four straight wins had preceded a 4-1 home loss against St Albans City on Saturday.
It was a blow for promotion-chasing Chats but manager Kevin Hake - speaking ahead of their midweek trip to Chichester City - hasn’t lost any faith in his side.
He said: “Saturday was a tough afternoon for us, and we have to be honest about that.
“We didn’t perform to the standards we’ve set for ourselves this season and St Albans punished us.
“They were better on the day and deserved their win.
“But this is a young group, and part of developing as a team is going through these moments and learning from them.
“We’ve had some brilliant highs this season, and this is the other side of football that every team faces.
“What’s important is that we stay balanced, we don’t get carried away when we’re winning, and we don’t fall apart when we lose.
“We stay together, stay focused and keep working in the right way.
“We’ve had a relentless schedule with ten away games out of the last eleven, something most teams would struggle with, and the lads have handled it brilliantly overall.
“One performance doesn’t change the belief we have in this group, or the work that’s being done on the training ground every week.”
Saturday’s game was their first at home in the league on a Saturday since mid-October in what has been a relentless schedule that’s included wins in the FA Cup, FA Trophy and Kent Cup.
Chats conceded early against St Albans but were level when Tope Fadahunsi struck just before the break.
The visitors scored three more goals, however, to inflict a defeat over Hake’s side. Goals on 54, 71 and 75 minutes clinched a big win for the visitors.
