Charlton Athletic man opens up on transfer criticism

Charlton Athletic striker Mason Burstow has told the South London Press that he is learning to deal with negativity that has been directed his way by sections of the club’s supporters. 

The youngster completed a deadline day move to Chelsea at the end of the January window before immediately being loaned back to the Addicks.

However despite being one of the team’s brighter sparks this term, Burstow has now run into criticism from some fans after choosing to further his career by agreeing to a move to Stamford Bridge.

Now the teenager has open up on the abuse that he has faced from his own supporters, as he made the following honest assessment of the situation:

“It’s something that I’ve had to deal with – especially after the move where the reception hasn’t been as good.

“But I feel like I’m dealing with it. I’ve been able to block it out. Once I’m playing, as soon as I touch the ball and doing what I love, the nerves go.”

Burstow went on to state that he couldn’t afford to turn a move to the Blues down after he took into account what the club could do for his career from a development perspective.

It has been widely reported that all parties involved in the deal were very happy with the outcome of the negotiations.

The Verdict 

This is a tough period for Burstow as he has already been the subject of abuse from his own fans at such an early stage of his career.

However it is a problem that many footballers experience in the modern day and it will certainly make his character stronger in the long term.

Social media companies have a lot to answer for when it comes to accountability and in cases like this it just highlights how easy it is for people to go online and spout abuse.
