Ross Stewart speaks out ahead of Sunderland’s big game v Charlton Athletic

Sunderland striker Ross Stewart says that Saturday’s game against Charlton Athletic is vital for his side as they look to pick up form and attempt to solidify their position in the playoffs.

After a poor run of results throughout February which saw the Black Cats pick up two points from five games, they finished the month with a convincing 3-0 victory against Wigan Athletic.

This win was even more crucial as Wigan sit second in the league and therefore reduced the gap between themselves and Wigan.

Reflecting on the win, Stewart told the club’s Official Media: “It was a really important result. Obviously it stopped the bad run of results that we had. It was a big game and a good following from the fans. It was nice to get the win.”

The 25-year-old believes tomorrows game against Charlton is an important game as they look to go on a better run. He said: “It’s going to be another tough game. It’s always going to be a tough place to go. We’ve shown on Saturday that we can win on the road, and win on the road well. We’ve trained well this week and we’ll prepare for that properly. Whoever is out there Saturday can hopefully go and win the game.”

The striker says he is happy and looking to end the season on a high, he said: “We’ve got to try and make sure the team wins, whether that’s me, we’ve got a lot of quality in the squad and a win on Saturday will do our confidence the world of good. We’ve got to use that now to go and have a really positive end to the season.”

The Verdict:

After a poor run of results last month, Sunderland will have to step up now to ensure they can still make the playoffs this year.

The victory against Wigan on Saturday was a good place to start and will definitely have given the squad some confidence
