Charlton Athletic 1-2 Swansea City: Piroe and Manning strike as Russell Martin's men sign off pre-season with victory

Ryan Manning struck five minutes from time as Swansea City came from behind to beat Charlton Athletic 2-1 in their final game of pre-season.

The Swans were not at their best in the opening 45 and fell behind in bizarre circumstances as Harry Darling passed into his own net following a monumental mix-up with goalkeeper Andy Fisher. But Russell Martin's side were far better after the restart at The Valley and levelled proceedings through Joel Piroe who struck from the second phase at a set-piece.

The visitors created numerous chances, and two substitutes combined in the 85th minute as Cameron Congreve fed Manning to notch the winner late on. Martin named a strong line-up to take on the Addicks, with summer signings Nathan Wood, Matty Sorinola and Darling all starting while last season's stars including Joel Piroe and Michael Obafemi also played from the outset.

But the visitors were still without Ben Cabango and Joe Allen who are recovering from ankle and hamstring injuries respectively which will no doubt be a concern to the Jack Army ahead of next weekend's clash with Rotherham.

Corey Blackett-Taylor caused plenty of problems with his pace early on, and it was a sign of things to come from the Aston Villa youth product. The Swans were far from their crisp best, and the Addicks were gifted the opener after just four minutes as Darling passed back to Fisher, although the pair were not on the same wavelength which ensured the defender's pass rolled into his own net.
