Championship rivals Reading write to Hull City calling for ticket action
Reading have written to Hull City and the other 22 Championship clubs calling on them to agree to a price cap for away fans when the season kicks off on August 30.
The Royals have charged away fans just £20 for games at the SCL Stadium since 2016 in a bid to champion the 'Twenty's Plenty' campaign, including City followers who watched the 1-1 draw in Royal Berkshire last season.
This term, however, Reading say they will only charge away fans £20 or less to those clubs prepared to reciprocate the offer, and as yet, three have responded - Blackburn Rovers, Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City.
City, though, have some of the cheapest home tickets in the league with a 12-month membership costing as little as £13 per game behind the goal in the North and South Stands, and it's understood the matchday pricing structure will remain 'friendly' when prices are revealed later this month, and so too away tickets. The club have offered up free memberships for youngsters and with excitement building, more than 10,500 have been snapped up so far.
Incidentally, away fans will now be housed in the North East corner of the arena after Acun Ilicali opted to make a change in a bid to boost the stadium's atmosphere.
"Our matchday pricing will be released imminently, and along the same lines as our membership and friendly match ticket pricing, they will be set at a price that we hope will see crowds at the MKM Stadium continue to grow," a Tigers' spokesperson told Hull Live.
This is the letter Reading sent to all clubs in the second-tier:
"For the 2022-23 season, there will be a marginal price rise to our ticket prices. We are very proud, however, that our matchday ticket prices remain amongst the most competitive across the Championship,"
