Nicolas Kuhn reveals why Celtic transfer dwarfed alternative January options as two Parkhead perks leave him stunned

Nicolas Kuhn says Champions League nights and international football were a major reason behind his Celtic transfer decision.

The winger has arrived in Glasgow on a deal until 2029 to become Brendan Rodgers' first signing of the January window. A former Bayern Munich youngster, he has impressed in Austria with Rapid Vienna and the lightning-quick attacker is now looking forward to his Parkhead debut, with Buckie Thistle the opposition this week on Scottish Cup fourth round business.

Rodgers' shopping isn't done yet but he did face a fight to land Kuhn, who had options to go to clubs other than Celtic. Speaking at his introductory press conference, he admits he only had one wish once a call from Glasgow's east-end was put in for him. He said: "For me it was clear the moment Celtic called and showed interest that I wanted to come here.

"There was some interest from other clubs. But the moment I received the message, I didn't really think about going somewhere else.

"I want to play in the Champions League and go to the national team. Now I made a big step to a big club. Of course in the future I want to play for the national team, that was a point in why I came here.

"The opportunity is really nice. If you see the stadium and everything, and the fans, it is unbelievable."
