Celtic transfer news bulletin as Fabian Rieder price tag named by Young Boys chief and Jeremie Frimpong auction nears

Young Boys sports director Steve von Bergen has left the door open for a bidding war to land Fabian Rieder amid rumoured Celtic interest.

The highly-rated midfielder would be a marquee signing for Brendan Rodgers to kickstart his second stint in charge of the Scottish Premiership champions with the Bern outfit set to demand a big transfer fee to take the 21-year-old from Switzerland this summer. And while the Hoops consider their next move in the market and how to spend the £25 million brought in from the sale of Jota, Von Bergen has teased that the club would be open to a sale.

With the likes of Borussia Monchengladbach touted with an approach the Young Boys chief told Swiss outlet 20min that the club hoped to land a fee over €10million (£8.6million). He said: "It's no secret, some clubs are interested. We hope for a transfer fee in the lower double-digit million range. It is very possible that there will be a lot more movement in the next few weeks."

Another club hoping for a bidding war to breakout this summer is Bayer Leverkusen. Jeremie Frimpong is in demand this summer, and Celtic are waiting to land a bumper payday from the sell-on clause in his contract.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid have all been named as interested parties. Bayer's sporting director Simon Rolfes admits a sale could be nearing, telling German outlet Welt: "Of course we sometimes have to sell one of the better players, but we still want to keep as many of them together as possible,"

Elsewhere, Maik Nawrocki appears to be edging closer to a move to Glasgow's east end from Legia Warsaw. The defender was not named in the squad who faced LKS Lodz on Friday night and a move to Celtic appears to be imminent.
