Celtic told the Mathias Kvistgaarden transfer rules as Brondby chief plays hardball with 'blown away' threshold set

Celtic have been told that Brondby must be "blown away" by an offer for Mathias Kvistgaarden if they are to sell by director of football Carsten V. Jensen.

Brendan Rodgers is on the hunt for reinforcements amid the Hoops stuttering defence of the Scottish Premiership title - with a new attacker highlighted as essential by the boss with Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu both set to get off for the Asian Cup in January. Danish striker Kvistgaarden was on Celtic's radar last summer wit a £4.1m bid rejected for the 21-year-old - and the Hoops look set to revive their interest next month.

But Brondby look set to play hardball over the sale of Kvistgaarden with Jensen insisting they are in no rush to sell key stars with the club in the midst of a three-way title fight with Midtjylland and FC Copenhagen. Quizzed over a potential sale of Kvistgaarden in the January window by Tipsbladet, Jensen responded: "The declared goal is to fight for the championship as far as we can, and want to go all the way. So it is not so smart in that context to send your best players away and put some money in the bank.

"We approach this with an angle that says we want to keep the group together. But it goes without saying that we must also be responsible in relation to running the company. If you are blown away by something, you have to bring it up and discuss it. But that is not the expectation at all or the approach, and it is also with the support of the board that we stick together in this team and believe in further development over the winter, and then we will see how far we can take it in the spring.
