The Paulo Bernardo Celtic transfer fee that would 'guarantee' talks but room for negotiation with Benfica

Paul Bernardo's Benfica contract includes a £6million release clause, according to a report.

The Celtic midfielder is starting to hit form after taking time to adjust following a season-long loan switch from the Lisbon giants. He smashed in the opener to set the champions on their way to a 2-1 derby victory over Rangers last week and fans have been raving about his recent displays. More regularly used in European games by Brendan Rodgers, Bernardo has now been let loose more often against Premiership opponents and fans are seeing a different player to the one that arrived from Portugal.

Football Scotland claim that a £6million offer would have to be accepted by Benfica. However, there is no obligation for the Hoops to make the move permanent for that amount, although they do have the option. Any transfer fee would be open to negotiation, but the £6m figure would guarantee the chance to talk terms with Bernardo, with his parent club compelled to accept.
