Celtic star admits 'tough going' 2022 but ace reveals 'stepped it up a level' mission to impress Ange Postecoglou

Celtic midfielder David Turnbull is keen to cement his place in the Hoops XI again after his first start since December.

A troublesome hamstring injury has ruled the Wishaw ace out for most of 2022 but was fielded from minute one for the first time since the Hoops' League Cup final win over Hibs almost five months ago on Saturday.

Ange Postecoglou's men strolled to a 4-1 win against Hearts in Premiership action as they stand on the brink of title glory.

They are six points clear of Rangers with two games to go and will be fancied to wrap up silverware at Dundee United on Wednesday.

Turnbull has been used as a sub in recent matches but wants more regular starting selection after improving his game to impress manager Postecoglou.

He said: “It’s been tough at times. Obviously after my injury in the cup final and I came back from that then I got another wee niggle with my ankle.

“So it’s been tough going, but I’ve been back in training and trying to get myself fully fit and training as best I can just for days like Saturday.

“It was really good. All the boys are on the same wavelength.

"We know how we are going to play. It was a joy to be out there, just out on the grass again.

"I was happy when I got named in the squad and was delighted.

"I feel the last few days in training I’ve stepped it up a level and tried to get my head in there and get in with an opportunity of playing and thankfully I did that."
