Celtic star on his Ange Postecoglou appreciation and the 'bring the standards up' mantra that helped deliver league title

Celtic midfielder David Turnbull managed 45 games for club and country in the 2021/22 season - and the Wishaw ace would take that again next term.

Despite suffering a hamstring injury in December's League Cup final with Hibs that's ruled him out for much of this year so far, he has still played a big role in delivering the title to Parkhead.

He carried much of the creative weight in midfield early on as Ange Postecoglou began to rebuild the Hoops, and it paid off.

The Australian was able to reclaim the Premiership crown from Rangers and they rounded off the season with a 6-0 win over Turnbull's former club Motherwell.

A second goal of the term against the Steelmen was netted by their record-fee holder, who didn't feel too many conflicting emotions when it went in.

There was time for reflection though on a term of highs and lows, one he would happily take again in terms of the Celtic appearance mark hit.

Postecoglou has proven a great sounding board and competition with Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and more in midfield has proven a worthy challenge.

The 22-year-old said: “I think I’d played 40 or 50 games in a row (before the injury). So if I do that every season, it would be brilliant.

"I didn’t want an injury but I don’t feel it held me back much and I don’t feel it will affect me next season either. I’m looking forward to playing as many games as I can again. It felt brilliant to lift the league trophy.

“The manager has been great with me. He’s given me and the other boys so much belief. He puts his style across and it suits the players.
