Celtic: Postecoglou expected to sign new contract at Parkhead

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou signing a new contract at the club is a case of when rather than if, says Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

The Australian arrived at Parkhead last year on a 12-month rolling deal, but there is an expectation that he will extend his stay at the club after their success in the 2021/22 season.

Last month, the Daily Record reported that Celtic would hold talks with Postecoglou over a new contract.

The same outlet claimed that the Glasgow outfit want to hand the 56-year-old improved terms and a longer deal, which is not surprising given what he accomplished in his first season in Scottish football.

Under Postecoglou, Celtic were able to wrestle the Scottish Premiership title back from their fierce rivals Rangers, while they also went on to claim the Scottish League Cup.

In Europe, of course, they could have done much better after getting knocked out of both the Europa League and the Europa Conference League, but overall, it was a successful campaign for Postecoglou’s side.

Joseph has told GIVEMESPORT that it is probably only a matter of time before Postecoglou puts pen to paper on a new deal at Celtic Park.

Speaking to GMS, the Sky Sports journalist said: “Celtic do this with new managers all the time; they have done since the start of the century.

“[Martin] O’Neill was on a rolling contract, [Gordon] Strachan, [Neil] Lennon, [Tony] Mowbray, Lennon again and Brendan Rodgers as well was on a rolling contract, and then they usually sign if their first year has been successful or Celtic see it going somewhere. That’s when they end up tying them down on a longer term contract.
