Celtic legend willing to sacrifice a Treble for one thing as Andy Rojas offers multiply for wanted playmaker

Jackie McNamara has confessed he IS willing to sacrifice a domestic Treble - if Celtic make their mark in Europe.

It's been one criticism thrown at the Hoops in recent times and the supporters would love that to change. Rivals Rangers have enjoyed some big European runs over the past couple of years including a Europa League run to the final in Seville, before losing out on penalties to Bundesliga outfit Frankfurt. The Champions League enters a new era with the Hoops part of the newly revamped competition and with that will bank the multi-millions on offer for reaching Europe's premier competition.

The Scottish champions have pocketed megabucks from previous campaigns beside Europe's elite with Rodgers looking to add quality over quantity to his squad this summer as he bids to make a mark amongst the top dogs. McNamara admits he would be happy to give up winning on home soil if it meant getting a top European run. Rodgers' European record at Parkhead hasn't been great and the former full-back would love nothing more than to watch his old side make their mark and go to that next level. And if it means losing out on a trophy to make that happen, the former Scotland star is on board.

Asked if he'd give up a clean sweep for a better Euro campaign, McNamara told BBC Sportsound: "Yeah, 100 percent. I think we get used to Trebles over the years. To crack Europe, that's the only time they'll get real credit for doing very well. I think for Brendan as well, his European record hasn't been great, it'd be good for him to go and make his mark in that and take the club to the next level. I think that's when he'd get real recognition for what he's done."
