Celtic irked by Livingston 'game plan' as Don Robertson put on the spot again over controversial tactic

Celtic assistant John Kennedy says football is about entertainment as was grilled over Livingston's "time-wasting" tactics.

Kennedy stepped into the dugout with Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers in the stands serving an SFA suspension and he reckons officials could do more to get the game moving at a faster pace with the home side slowing it down as part of their 'game plan'. The Scottish champions were made to work for their 3-0 win after a battling first-half performance from the Lions as they returned to the league summit after Rangers' win over Hibs 24 hours earlier.

It means Celtic head into the Ibrox derby showdown one point clear of Philippe Clement's side - having played a game more. Following the game on BBC Sportsound Kennedy was put on the spot on his frustrations on the touchline during the first half for what appeared to be an attempt to run down the clock.

Kennedy felt that referee Don Robertson and the match officials could have done more to crack down on the tactic in the first half. He said: ‘It’s obviously part of Livingston’s game plan to do that but I just think the officials could do a little bit more to speed things up and get the game going.

"At the end of the day it’s about entertainment and pleasing the fans. Sometimes when it’s not happening it’s frustrating especially with the way we like to play - we like to keep the tempo high but we just focus on the game and don’t worry about things that we can’t control.”

Kyogo had an appeal for a penalty turned down with Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton in disagreement in the Sky Sports studio. The Celtic No2 revealed post-match the Hoops star felt it WAS a foul as he delivered his view on the decision.
