The Scottish Cup semi-finals are behind us with Scottish Premiership action just around the corner - but some punters are reading the tea leaves from the Hampden fallout.

Rangers' striker Cyriel Dessers set the debate alight after hyping up the Light Blues as they best team in Scotland going into the final five games of the the league campaign - but Eddie Easson from Fife reckons Cameron Carter-Vickers is the only one talking sense after the Celtic star claimed their three-point lead at the summit means nothing for the run-in.

He said: "Rangers were bang average against Hearts. Then we had serial sitter misser Dessers saying his team are the best. Thank goodness for CCV for talking some sense on the back pages. Three points is nothing. A slip up at Celtic Park and its curtains for them. Then Clement will feel the heat when unsettled natives get restless. Ask Michael Beale."

But Dessers seems to be winning over more Rangers fans by the day. His Scottish Cup double sparked Alan Flett to email in: "Like most Rangers fans I was unimpressed with Dessers in the early part of the season. But as the weeks and months have gone on, I’ve warmed to him. He’s not the best striker we’ve ever had but he’s far from being the worst. He’s scored some outstanding goals, in particular the one v Betis. If Messi scores that we’d be raving about it for years."

Gary Stevenson of Newtonhill added: "It's time to cut Cyriel Dessers a bit of slack. His workrate, hold up play and attitude is top notch. With Clement's backing, if he sharpens up his conversion rate he would easily be the country's best striker. There is no need for taking a gamble on Shankland or Miovski who have no top level experience. In Cyriel we trust."
