Celtic earn former Rangers striker praise as pundit hails Motherwell star for stopping Hoops from scoring eight

Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly has earned three bouts of praise for his performance against Celtic on Sunday.

The Hoops swept past Graham Alexander's Steelmen in clinical fashion, Tom Rogic netting a double and Liel Abada also scoring before half-time.

Daizen Maeda then struck in the second half to make it 4-0 as the Fir Park side continue to wait for their first Premiership win of 2022 ahead of taking on Dundee United this Wednesday.

Still fourth in the league, former Hamilton boss Alex Neil reckons Kelly was the reason why Motherwell didn't concede more than four.

Neil told Sky Sports: "He made some good saves. It showed Celtic's dominance with the amount of saves he made and kept the score down.

"If you're a Motherwell player, you are coming away thinking it could have been six, seven or eight. So credit to Kelly for the saves he made."

Hoops legend and former goalkeeper Pat Bonner also noted down several key stops from the home side's vice-captain, multiple of which were made with his foot.

Bonner told the BBC: "Liam Kelly has kept the score down for Motherwell. He has made four or five really good saves today."

Rangers legend Kris Boyd meanwhile told Sky that Alexander's men won't be defined on results against the league's top two after their first Fir Park defeat since a 6-1 Halloween loss to Rangers.

He said: "It's difficult to stop Celtic. Motherwell had eight players behind the ball at all times. There were spells Motherwell played well but you won't come up against that quality every week."
