Celtic drubbing was a harsh lesson but we must move on, says Motherwell midfielder

Dean Cornelius says Motherwell must forget their 4-0 drubbing by Celtic as quickly as they can, and move on with the rest of their season.

Cornelius made a rare start in place of ineligible Liam Shaw for the visit by the Premiership leaders, who were 3-0 up at half-time courtesy of a Liel Abada strike and a Tom Rogic double, with Daizen Maeda adding a fourth in the second half.

Cornelius, 20, says it wasn’t a day to remember, and urged his side to draw a line under it.

He said: “It was a great experience for me. Obviously it didn’t go the way I wanted it to, but it’s a harsh lesson and we’ll only deal with it.

“We came here, we tried to go toe-to-toe with them and the better team won on the day.

“There’s no point looking back on it now, it’s done, and all we can do is focus on the next game.”

That comes on Wednesday night for Motherwell, who travel to face Dundee United at Tannadice, and they’re likely to come up against a familiar face in Tony Watt.

Cornelius says it’s important for the Steelmen to build on what they’ve achieved so far this season, starting with three points on Tayside.

He said: “We’ll take each game as it comes, thankfully we’ve got a fixture on Wednesday, so we can’t dwell on it for long.

“We’re in a good position, that’s credit to the boys who have worked hard all season, but it’s not done yet.

“It’s a long season, so all we can do is take each game as it comes and try and win each game.”

On teaming up against Watt, Cornelius grinned: “It will be all smiles, but we’ll see and we’ll make sure we can get one up on him.”
