Celtic defeat was a sore one, points now need to match performances, says Motherwell star

Theo Bair says Motherwell’s points need to start matching their performances after losing 2-1 at home to Premiership leaders Celtic.

While the reigning Scottish champions will feel that playing until the final whistle is what got them the win in the end, Motherwell were left kicking themselves for missing some good chances throughout the 90 minutes.

And when they did finally score through Blair Spittal’s 95th-minute equaliser, after sub Luis Palma had opened the scoring, Celtic found a winner two minutes later through Matt O’Riley.

The Steelmen now head to Livingston on Saturday and striker Bair hopes they finally get rewarded for their play.

He said: “Our performances need to match the points we get, and I think we deserved more points from the last couple of games we played.

“If we continue like that, the goals, the performances, the points, will come.

“The fact that the chances are there is a good sign.

“I’m frustrated not to score, being a striker, but ultimately if I’m helping the team and we’re still having good performances, those goals will come.

“I think it has been a couple of games like that, where it has been frustrating not to take chances, but against very good opposition.

“Blair scores at the end, and a great goal it was.

“It’s nice to have that weight off everyone’s back, because we hadn’t scored for three games.

“It’s frustrating, but I’m proud of the boys for working so hard, and we’re gelling well, so we can only keep going.”

Bair was one of a few players who had chances, with Scott Bain saving his second-half volley, and the Canadian felt they deserved more.
