Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers confirms David Turnbull has a future at champions
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that midfielder David Turnbull has a future at the club.
Turnbull, 24, scored five goals in 39 games last season and perhaps hasn’t had as much game-time as he would have liked since his move from Motherwell in August 2020.
But Rodgers says he has been impressed with the Wishaw man since his return to Parkhead, and reckons he has a key role to play.
He said: “He has been good in pre-season.
“I really like him as a footballer – he’s got tools, he’s comfortable on the ball, and can score goals.
“His efficiency is very good, he just needs to keep working and to keep on the move.
“It’s always important with those players that they don’t turn the engine off.”
Turnbull bagged a goal and an assist off the bench in a 3-2 win over Athletic Club in James Forrest’s testimonial, and Rodgers got a chance to run the rule over his squad ahead of their opener against Ross County.
He said: “A lot of these guys I don’t know, so for me there is a clean slate for them all.
“It’s assessing over the course of pre-season – what they’ve done in the past doesn’t really matter.
“That includes the guys who have worked with me before.
“In order to have that hunger, that’s how it has to be.”
