Barry Robson insists everyone in the Pittodrie dressing room believes Aberdeen can stun the champions on Sunday.The Dons haven’t beaten Celtic in more than five years and stattos have to go back to 2016 – when Simon Church netted – for the last time they sank them on home turf. Robson and the rest of the Red Army will be looking for a repeat of that scalp when Brendan Rodgers takes his side to the Granite City. The manager knows there is a real feelgood factor at Pittodrie fresh from finishing third and looking forward to this month’s Europa League play-off clash, which will lead to guaranteed group stage football.
Aberdeen took a point at Livingston last weekend as the Hoops recovered from an early fright to take care of Ross County. Robson said: “I watched the game against County and thought they did very well. But I also saw Celtic’s quality. They have had just one competitive game, so have we. People forget that. We played Livingston last week and it was their fifth competitive game whereas it was our first.
“Both Celtic and us are in the same boat and I think it will be a good game. I’m looking forward to it and so are the players. County did well but I’m not saying we are going to copy them. Malky Mackay tried to organise his team in the right way and we will try to do what suits us.“It is always difficult but you have to believe you can perform well against them and get a result – and we do believe.” Robson has been on both sides of the fence as a player and knows his squad will need to be at it, as will he and the rest of the staff.They’re also aware Celts could be a far different proposition under Rodgers to Ange Postecoglou’s all-conquering side.
