Celtic and Rangers open talks over move for former Cardiff City starlet Rabbi Matondo

Celtic and Rangers are both eyeing up a move for Wales international Rabbi Matondo this summer.

The former Cardiff City international has seen his stock soar in the last few months, having enjoyed a hugely successful season on loan at Belgian side Cercle Brugge, where he racked up 10 goals in 27 games. However, it seems parent club Schalke, who recently completed a return to the Bundesliga, are willing to let the Welshman move on to pastures new in this window.

Cercle were understood to be keen on keeping the winger, while city rivals Club Brugge were also believed to be admirers.

Reports on the continent have previously suggested that the 21-year-old was close to signing on for Anderlecht before Vincent Kompany's departure, while Fulham and Bournemouth have also shown an interest in taking him to the Premier League.

However, it appears Matondo, who's currently away with Rob Page's Wales Squad, could now be on his way to Glasgow. Indeed, WalesOnline understands talks with both Old Firm clubs have already begun.

The news comes on the back of interest from both sides of Glasgow in Rabbi's 16-year-old brother, Japhet, who's currently still plying his trade with Cardiff City.

Leeds United have also cast an eye over Japhet, although it's understood Cardiff are keen to keep him in the capital.
