Celebrity Big Brother's Fern Britton threatens to leave house amid Phillip Schofield rumours

Fern Britton appears to have threatened to quit the Celebrity Big Brother house if rumours Phillip Schofield could join the show come true. The pair presented This Morning together for eight years before she left in 2009.

Despite hosting the show together every day in that time, there was reportedly a 'feud' between Fern and Phillip, who was forced to quit the ITV daytime show last year after he admitted to an "unwise but not illegal" affair with a younger male colleague. But neither have ever confirmed whether or not this was the case.

But during Wednesday’s episode (March 6) of Celebrity Big Brother, housemate Gary Goldsmith asked Britton her thoughts on the changes at This Morning, which also included the exit of Holly Willoughby in October after 14 years at the helm.

She replied: "I haven’t been there for 15 years. I got off the train and it’s way over the horizon now so I honestly don’t know. I can’t say anything. Anything I would say would be supposition."

She admitted it was “tricky at times” to work on the ITV chat show, adding it is an institution which "rocks but it gets back together again". Fern then said: "I think Ben [Shephard] and Cat [Deeley] are going to do a really good job. I think it’s a new era," of the duo who were announced as new permanent hosts in February.

Gary said there were rumours that Schofield was coming into the Celebrity Big Brother house, to which Britton replied: "Well that didn’t happen yet. Maybe he’s coming in as a surprise? I might have to leave at that point."
