A casualty has been airlifted to hospital after a three-vehicle crash in Carmarthenshire this morning. Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that the B4309 between Furnace and Maen Gwynne near Llanelli was currently closed due to the serious collision.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was also called to the incident this morning. It said one casualty was trapped inside one of the vehicles.

Crews from Llanelli, Ammanford, Pontiets, and Pontarddulais were called to the scene at around 9.41am. The incident is currently ongoing. In a statement, a spokesperson for the fire and rescue service said: "At 9.41am on Friday, July 28, the Llanelli, Ammanford, Pontiets, Pontarddulais and Carmarthen crews were called to an incident along the B4309 in Furnace, Llanelli.

"Crews responded to a road traffic collision involving three private motor vehicles, with one casualty trapped inside one of the vehicles. Crews have assisted ambulance service and air ambulance paramedics who are also in attendance. One casualty has been airlifted to hospital with another casualty being conveyed to hospital by road ambulance. This incident is currently ongoing."

Traffic Wales' map indicates that there is heavy traffic in the Llanelli area. Dyfed-Powys Police earlier advised road users to avoid the area if possible, and to find an alternative route.
