Casemiro, Shaw, Maguire - Manchester United injury news and return dates ahead of Newport

Manchester United’s injury list has got somewhat thinner in recent weeks with several players welcomed back to action.

Erik ten Hag said in December that he believes his squad will be stronger by February, not because of signings but because of returning stars. United have had more than 20 first-teamers out injured at some point since the start of pre-season.

Lisandro Martinez, previously out since September, got a big roar from the Old Trafford crowd when he came on as a substitute in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham and could feature against Newport County in the FA Cup this weekend. Christian Eriksen and Antony both returned from issues too, although a number are still yet to get back onto the field.

Injury: Hamstring

What we know:Casemiro returned to the matchday squad for the first time since November in the draw with Tottenham. He did not get into the pitch but the clash with Newport seems like a perfect opportunity to welcome the Brazilian back.

Injury: Unspecified and illness

What we know: Shaw has not played since Christmas after pulling out of the Boxing Day win over Aston Villa with what was described as a minor problem. However, he has this week returned to full training and could be in line to feature against Newport.

Injury: Calf

What we know: Mount is expected to return against Newport after being sidelined for more than two months with a calf injury. The 25-year-old has played just 12 times all season due to setbacks.
