Manchester United handed double fitness concern ahead of Newport County FA Cup tie

Marcus Rashford and Jonny Evans are both doubts for Manchester United's trip to face Newport County this weekend.

United return to action when they travel to face the Welsh side in the fourth round of the FA Cup, with Erik ten Hag expected to name a strong side for the match. Ten Hag hopes to welcome back a number of key players for the clash at Rodney Parade, but he has revealed that Rashford and Evans could both miss the match due to illness.

"It's a strong side and we have still some injuries, like [Victor] Lindelof and [Tyrell] Malacia," he told MUTV. "This morning, Rashford was ill and Evans was ill. So we have to see how they recover but we have, for the rest, players returning, like Martinez, like Shaw, like Maguire, like Casemiro, which is a good thing."

Earlier in the day, the United manager confirmed Altay Bayindir will make his debut for the club this weekend, with Andre Onana currently away on international duty.

Bayindir joined United from Fenerbahce on transfer deadline day for £4.28million but fellow goalkeeper Onana has started in all 30 games this season.

"He will be in the goal," Ten Hag said. "What we can expect for him is clear. He waits for his chance but he is experienced, he played in a big club in Turkey under big pressure, he knows how to deal with it.

"We were all very convinced when we brought him into this club. So we are looking forward to Sunday. Altay is very motivated, he can't wait for this moment and now this is his moment."
