Casemiro explains how Manchester United fans have surprised him

Casemiro said Manchester United fans have "really surprised" him during his time at Old Trafford so far.

The United midfielder made a late move to the club during the summer transfer window, as Erik ten Hag added some much needed steel to his side. Casemiro was one of six new additions ahead of the September 1 deadline, as the Reds spent heavily to add vital squad depth ahead of a congested fixture list this season.

The 30-year-old has been slowly introduced to his role within the United team, as Casemiro was handed his first Premier League start against Everton last weekend. After being robbed of the ball for the Toffees' opening goal, the Brazilian showed both his resilience and experience as he recovered superbly to put in a man-of-the-match performance for his side.

Ten Hag will no doubt turn to Casemiro again for Newcastle's visit to Old Trafford, where the home fans will get behind the United squad once more. The holding midfielder has opened up on how surprised he was by the passion shown from the fans, as he revealed just how important the supporters were to himself and the rest of the team,

He told club media : "We have a lot of top quality players, in the city people tell me a lot about it, like where the best restaurants are. I’m someone who likes to stay at home and relax with my family, I’m doing really well and am very happy to be here.

"Not just the city [where everyone is passionate about football], but I think in the entire country, the way the country lives for football, the passion people have for their clubs in England. It’s not too different to Spain. I’ve been really surprised by the fans, surprised by the atmosphere
