Carlo Ancelotti verdict should excite Man United amid shock transfer link

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer and, should a deal materialise, they will hope he can replicate the form he showed for the Toffees during his time working under Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

A report in The Athletic has claimed United have discussed the possibillity of signing Brentford forward Ivan Toney, as well as Calvert-Lewin, as they look at their striking options.

Rasmus Hojlund is currently the only recognised forward at Old Trafford and United are exploring their options as they look to strengthen their goalscoring department.

United are expected to seal a £33 million move for Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee, but they may not stop there in their search for a new striker.

If United want to be creative in the transfer market this summer and a deal for Calvert-Lewin may well fit that bill. The forward has struggled to hit the heights he reached under Ancelotti's management at Everton in the 2020/21 season, as his form saw him named in England's squad for the European Championships.

That season, Calvert-Lewin scored 21 goals in all competitions and Ancelotti, who now manages Real Madrid, transformed his fortunes and told the press he believed Calvert-Lewin was a 'complete striker'.

"He is a complete striker. It is not easy to find a striker with these characteristics," said Ancelotti when Calvert-Lewin earned his first call-up to the England national team in October 2020.
