Carl Starfelt delivers Celtic 'see you next season' message as defender reacts to injury blow

Celtic star Carl Starfelt has provided fans with an update after suffering an injury on international duty last week.

The Swedish defender defender was sent for scans after being stretchered off during his country's clash against Slovenia.

And despite a Sweden victory, concern quickly turned to whether or not the star will be likely to return in time for the start of Celtic's competitive next season.

The 27-year-old was left gutted after being handed his fifth cap and was immediately ruled out of the Nations League triple header against Norway (twice) and the clash with Serbia.

But taking to Instagram, Starfelt posted a picture of himself and his Sweden team mates with the caption "Happy to have made my competition debut for Sweden

"Unfortunately it ended with an injury keeping me away from upcoming internationals.

"Time to recover, see you next season."

Starfelt reportedly suffered hamstring damage with Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou hoping to avoid a repeat of the crock hell suffered by Kyogo and David Turnbull – who both missed four months with tears.

At first, the outcome looked pretty bleak and Starfelt admitted: “I felt a stabbing pain in my back so I had to go off.

“Of course it’s not fun, especially not when you get the chance to play and you want to take your opportunity.

“But sometimes it’s like that in football, I have to see now what kind of injury it is.

“We’ll see what it is, but it does not look very bright.

“If I am lucky, the X-ray may not show anything and I can recover in a few days, but right now I do not see it as very likely.”

However, the centre-back's update sounds a lot more promising which is good news for Celtic.
