Cardiff City transfer headlines as 27-goal striker linked and Swansea City boss gives injury update ahead of South Wales derby

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City headlines for Saturday, March 19.

Cardiff are believed to be interested in a summer move for Scottish striker Declan McManus. According to Football League World, City are among a clutch of clubs keen on the forward, who's been in red hot form for newly-crowned Welsh champions The New Saints, netting an impressive 27 goals in 33 games.

McManus only arrived at the club last summer, in a £60,000 move from Dunfermline Athletic, and his current deal with the club runs until 2023. But his form is reportedly now starting to attract interest from elsewhere.

The latest report claims TNS are braced for offers when the window reopens at the end of the season. It also adds that the Bluebirds are at the front of the queue for his signature.

Swansea City boss Russell Martin says Flynn Downes and Jamie Paterson will be back in contention for the upcoming South Wales derby. Both players sat out the drab 0-0 draw with Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon, with Paterson pulling out of the starting line-up due to a problem in the warm-up.

However, Martin says both players will be available for the trip to the Cardiff City Stadium after the international break. "Flynn was feeling a bit tight after Wednesday. He felt a muscle and we didn't want to risk it,” he said.

“He was willing to play but it would have been madness to play him and then lose him for four or five weeks and have him miss the rest of the season. Pato felt he could play but he felt a little tightness in the warm-up, so you have to make these decisions and listen to the medical team.

"They're not easy decisions, but I think they have to be the right ones for the big picture and they should be ready for the next game.”
