'We might see...' - Keith Downie drops exciting behind-scenes Newcastle United claim

Journalist Keith Downie has claimed that there will be no need for Eddie Howe to rush a return for Callum Wilson to action for Newcastle.

Wilson has been sidelined since December after he picked up an injury against Manchester United at St James’s Park. Before his injury, Wilson scored six goals in 15 Premier League games and is still their top scorer despite not featuring this year.

Chris Wood was brought into St James’s Park from Burnley in January for £25m to act as an immediate replacement for the injured Wilson, and Newcastle have lost just twice in their last nine games since the former Burnley man’s introduction.

Kieran Tripper has also been sidelined due to injury, but Keith Downie spoke to GIVEMESPORT and claimed that Wilson will return to action before the English right-back.

“I think we might see Wilson back a little bit earlier [than Trippier]. But I think because the team are doing so well at the moment, there’s not a need to rush them back,” Downie said.

Despite the poor form before Christmas of the Magpies, Wilson was somewhat a star performer as he chipped in with six goals in 15 appearances, and acted as a real poacher, as all of his goals came from inside the box.

Newcastle have experienced a serious change in form since the turn of the year, they have lost just twice in their last nine games – this is largely down to the recruitment in January with Dan Burn, Matt Targett, and Chris Wood all featuring regularly.
