Cardiff City 1-3 Blackburn Rovers: Weimann double consigns Bluebirds to first back-to-back defeats under Riza
Cardiff City suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time under Omer Riza as Blackburn Rovers ran out 3-1 winners, largely thanks to an Andi Weimann double.
Weimann scored once in each half and while David Turnbull offered some hope by netting his first goal for the club, Lewis Baker slotted home in the dying minutes to make sure of the three points for John Eustace's side.
The precarious nature of Riza's position leaves a big question mark, while two defeats in four days, following the loss to Luton Town on Wednesday evening, could see the Bluebirds drop into the relegation zone once again by the end of the weekend, if other results go against them. What that means for Riza is unknown, but after a couple of setbacks, no doubt the fan base will be desperate for some clarity over the coming fortnight.
The visitors looked dangerous in transition and on the break right from the off, the zip of their passing and patterns had Cardiff's defenders chasing shadows on occasion.
The opener was really something to behold, with Rovers holding on to the ball for a matter of minutes, building up from their own goal right to the other end of the pitch, which resulted in Weimann tapping home a pinpoint cross from Lewis Travis on 14 minutes.
The goal invited Cardiff to push their attack forward, but in doing so they left cavernous areas of the pitch for Rovers to exploit on the turnover and they did just that.
Minutes after Weimann's strike, Todd Cantwell had the ball in the back of the net after some sloppy play from the Bluebirds. Yuki Ohashi slid in Weimann, who forced a top save from Jak Alnwick before Cantwell tapped home the rebound - but the former Rangers man was flagged for offside. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City
