Car ploughs through shop front with huge emergency response

A woman was arrested after a car ploughed through a shop front in Bolton.

Police officers and firefighters rushed to the scene of the crash on Lee Lane in the Horwich area at around 10pm last night (Saturday). Pictures and video footage taken at the scene showed a car smashed through the front of the Fire Press shop - a printing business.

The glass doors on the shop front were left completely smashed through, with the car coming to a stop inside the store. A cordon was put in place as emergency crews responded.

Police said a 21-year-old woman was arrested on the scene on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The fire service said 'two women were out of the car prior to crews’ arrival'. Firefighters worked to make the scene safe.

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 10pm last night (29 July 2023) on Lee Lane in Horwich, Bolton officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision. A 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug. The investigation is ongoing."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 10pm on Saturday 29 July, fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Lee Lane, Horwich. A fire engine from Horwich and the technical rescue unit from Ashton quickly attended the incident, which involved a car colliding with the front of a shop.

"Two women were out of the car prior to crews’ arrival. Firefighters helped make the area safe before handing the scene over to Greater Manchester Police.

"GMFRS crews were in attendance for about two hours."
