Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin 3: Mexican might be feeling 'burned out' ahead of trilogy fight

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez might be ‘burned out’ from the sheer number of fights he has had in the last few years ahead of his trilogy bout against Gennady Golovkin, former world champion Sergio Mora says.

The Mexican will lock horns with his old middleweight rival on September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with his WBA, WBC, IBF, IBO and Ring belts up for grabs.

Canelo Alvarez has fought five times over the past couple of years, winning four of them including victories over Caleb Plant, Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders, before suffering a surprise defeat to Dmitry Bivol in his last outing.

Golovkin, meanwhile, has only fought twice during that same period.

And Mora reckons Canelo could be feeling the effects of a busy schedule going into their trilogy fight.

He told FightHype: “As far as the X’s and O’s and who wins the fight, no, it hasn’t changed. I still favour Canelo, and I would favour Canelo maybe even by stoppage.

“What does make things interesting is Canelo’s coming off a loss. Canello is so bitter about Golovkin, and they know each other so well.

“Golovkin is coming off a win, and he’s not going to have to sacrifice to make 160. He can be stronger and bigger at 168.

“They’ve felt each other’s power. That fight ends in a knockout, and both of them have the power to end it with a knockout. I would favour Canelo, of course, but I’m not going to totally write off Golovkin.
