Canelo Alvarez next fight: Eddie Hearn explains two possible options after Dmitry Bivol loss

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has admitted he would advise Canelo Alvarez to fight Gennady Golovkin in a third first ahead of the Dmitry Bivol rematch.

Despite falling to defeat against Dmitry Bivol earlier this month, Canelo Alvarez still seems to have quite a few options in front of him. The man known as one of the pound-for-pound best in the sport has a parade of fighters just waiting to get into the ring with him, including one that just put the Mexican sensation to the sword in a unanimous decision triumph.

Bivol, who successfully defended his WBA light heavyweight title against Canelo in Las Vegas, has said he’s open to the idea of a rematch later this year.

Eddie Hearn, meanwhile, wants to see that too, but not before Golovkin gets his long-awaited third shot at the 31-year-old.

“I’m a little bit biased because I just love the Gennadiy Golovkin trilogy,” Hearn told DAZN. “Now I think it’s even more intriguing because he’s coming off the defeat. If he was to lose to Gennadiy Golovkin, where does he go? You’re talking about losing at 175, losing at 168. You’re no longer a world [champion]. 

“Of course, he’s Canelo Alvarez. But still, back-to-back defeats like that. So all the pressure right now is actually heaped on Canelo Alvarez. You don’t know what defeat is going to do to a man like that. We know he suffered one years ago against Floyd Mayweather. He was a young man then. Can he bounce back? Is he affected by that? Is his confidence gone?
