Cambuslang Rangers hail striker's Queen's Park move as co-boss says title is their own to lose

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell admits the West of Scotland League Conference B title is in their own hands – but says there’s still a long way to go.

Nearest challengers Gartcairn’s 4-0 win over Ashfield leaves them two points behind Cambuslang, but Campbell’s side now have three games in hand.

He acknowledges that winning those games will put them in a powerful position, but says his side won’t lose focus.

“If we win our games in hand we’ll win the league,” said Campbell. If you said before the start of the season that with eight games to go we needed to win four of them, I’d have bit your hand off.

“Paul McColl and I are relatively comfortable with where we are, but there’s a huge challenge ahead, because there are some tough games in there.

“We’re absolutely, wholly, focusing on this season. We’ve got a lot of work to do yet before we can start looking at what next season brings.

“You know how quickly it can turn against you, so we are genuinely trying to focus on these challenges and we’ll see where it takes us.”

Cambuslang were left idle at the weekend, and are preparing for a trip to Carluke Rovers on Saturday, before hosting Wishaw in the West of Scotland League Cup the following weekend.

Campbell says the trip to the John Cumming Stadium is their sole focus for now, though.

He said: “There are two massive games coming up. We’ve trained three times this week to try and keep us ticking over, keep it moving, because we were a bit disappointed that we didn’t have a game at the weekend.

“We just need to prepare well. We’ve got Wishaw in the cup the week after, which will be a different challenge again, but we’ll deal with Carluke first.”
