Calvin Ramsay 'smiling' again as Liverpool star set for key Preston North End role after injury misery

Smiling Calvin Ramsay is set to play a big part in the second half of Preston's season after putting his injury hell in the rear-view mirror.

Ramsay joined Liverpool from Aberdeen 18 months ago but he's spent most of the time since out with a recurring knee problem. He missed the second half of his debut season at Anfield with the injury and after joining Preston on loan in the summer, it immediately resurfaced, and he's yet to play for North End.

Still his star has risen since his move to Merseyside and he made his Scotland debut as well as featuring for Jurgen Klopp twice in competitive games. And he's now set for a run of competitive action in the Championship as he gears back up to fitness with the reserves - much to the delight of manager Ryan Lowe.

He said: "I’m pleased for Calvin really. It has been a tough time for him hasn’t it? He came to us in pre-season, on loan, and he wasn’t quite right. He then had to go back and reset his program for his knee.

"He’s got a big smile on his face and he loves being here. We want him getting competitive football for as long as he’s here. He’s a good player. We’ve got to get him up to speed, don’t get me wrong, but it’s nice to have him around and if you ask him I’m sure he’d say the same thing.

"I am hoping he can still have a big say in the season. He has given me room for thought and he is a different option, which is why we brought him in. He’s a little bit off the pace, I must say, until we get him up to speed. But, once we get him up to speed he’s a very good player. Of course he will be a threat.

"You don’t play for Liverpool or get bought by Liverpool if you’re not any good in that department. You only have to look at the way Liverpool’s full backs play, so if he
