Callum McGregor makes Celtic 'no better feeling' admission as he salutes fans who braved 'intimidating' Rangers trip

Callum McGregor hopes Celtic can reward the hardy bunch of fans who came to their away match at Rangers with a Champions League group stage spot.

The Hoops took a big stride towards the Premiership title last weekend with a 2-1 win over their bitter rivals, coming from a goal down to seal an important triumph.

Just 700 fans with green and white allegiances sat inside a sold-out Ibrox for the game that put Ange Postecoglou's men six points clear at the summit with six games to go.

McGregor will lead his team out once more against St Johnstone on Saturday and knows the importance of now making good on their large points margin.

Winning the title is likely to land a Champions League group stage spot for whoever claims it, and the midfielder reckons their away fans inside the Govan ground deserved to celebrate moving closer to that.

He said in an interview on Celtic TV: "We were under the cosh a wee bit at the start of the game as we obviously never started so well. But it was good. The boys managed to bounce back so quickly after the goal.

"We were controlled after that and it was good to stretch the gap heading into the final stages. It would be nice (to win the league).

"There's no better feeling than going there and skippering the team to a victory there. The boys were class, as were the supporters. It must have been intimidating being in there on their own, so it was great to get three points."

A key member of Steve Clarke's Scotland side, McGregor is well aware of the boost Champions League football could provide to the entire club.

The Parkhead captain added on Celtic TV: "If we can get straight into the group stages of the Champions League, it's a massive boost for the club financially.
