Man City 'hold advantage' in Darwin Nunez race and more transfer rumours

Manchester City hold an advantage in the race to sign Darwin Nunez this summer, according to reports in Portugal.

Rumours are swirling that the Uruguay international could be on the move this summer, having impressed with his performances for Benfica this summer. Nunez has 28 goals for the Lisbon side, and was on the scoresheet again on Tuesday against Liverpool.

A number of teams have been linked with the 22-year-old, including the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal, Newcastle, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Nunez, though, is said to favour two other sides ahead of the summer.

Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness ) suggest City and Atletico Madrid are the striker’s personal preferences when it comes to potential destinations. Of those two, City are claimed to hold a distinct advantage.

The Blues are said to have been interested in Nunez since 2020, with the forward’s stock rising since. But with City thought to be leading the race for Erling Haaland as things stand, a big-money move for Nunez would appear unlikely.

Elsewhere, reports suggest another Portugal-based player could be eyeing up a move to City. Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes is claimed to have turned down a move to Wolves in the hope that Pep Guardiola will come calling.

The 23-year-old has this week been linked with a move to Molineux, although it appears the player isn’t interested in such a move. A Bola reports Nunes is only interested in joining a club who will fight for titles, and has set his sights on the Etihad.

City have been linked with the midfielder, and Nunes reportedly ‘dreams’ of making the move to the Premier League champions.
