Burnley sign former St Pat's man Luke McNally for £2million

Former St Patrick's Athletic defender Luke McNally has joined Vincent Kompany's Burnley in a transfer worth up to £2million.

The Republic of Ireland underage player enjoyed a breakout season with Oxford United, following his move from St Pat's 18 months ago and becomes Kompany's second summer signing as he attempts to plot a return to the Premier League.

Oxford are believed to have rejected two previous offers from Burnley before the recently relegated Premier League side returned with an improved offer.

McNally has signed a four-year contract with the Clarets and his move could pave the way for fellow Irishman Nathan Collins to leave, with several Premier League clubs circling.

St Pat's will also benefit from McNally's move as they had a sell-on clause in the deal that took him from Richmond Park to Oxford.

"It's unreal to be here, I’m absolutely buzzing and so glad to have got the move done," McNally said.

"It’s all happened so quick really, I just can’t wait to start now and I’m really excited."

Manager Kompany added: "Luke is a young player, he's good on the ball, wins his challenges, and knows how to defend. We are delighted he is now a part of our squad."

"We are pleased to welcome him to our Club, he has shown all the qualities we were looking for in a central defender, and we are looking forward to working with Luke."
