Bruno Lage 'anger' at £13.5m ace 'not well received' by Wolves squad

Bruno Lage’s comments on Wolves defender Ki-Jana Hoever have not gone down well with the rest of the squad, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Hoever made just his fourth league start of the season on Saturday, but his afternoon at Molineux did not go to plan.

With Nelson Semedo ruled out due to injury, Hoever was brought in to play at right wing-back for Wolves’ home clash with Crystal Palace.

However, the £13.5m signing from Liverpool only lasted 25 minutes before he had to be replaced after suffering an injury to his right leg.

After the match, Lage questioned the commitment of Hoever, while also hitting out at some of the other younger players in his squad.

“Ki is a good example of the young kids that want everything but don’t train at the intensity they need or prepare themselves enough,” he told reporters.

“I have too many kids in my team that don’t work the way they should, that don’t prepare the way they should.

“Injuries can happen, but this one happened because he’s not prepared. I don’t waste time with guys who don’t work hard.”

Jones feels Lage has been growing irritated with results in recent weeks, and this led to him taking his frustration out on Hoever.

Jones has suggested that the Wolves players were not particularly happy with Lage’s personal attack on Hoever, though.

Responding to Lage’s harsh words, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think he’s looked for an outlet to take out of his anger on, and he’s found his target. I don’t think it’s been very well received from around the squad, from what I’m hearing.”
