Wolves make key announcement about player who impressed Bruno Lage

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Toti Gomes has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

Toti has been rewarded for his performances upon returning to the club from a loan with Grasshopper, who play in the top tier in Switzerland. The 23 year-old was brought to Wolves from Portuguese side Estoril in September 2020 but spent last season with Grasshopper before being loaned out to the Zurich-based club for the first half of this season.

Toti was recalled in January ahead of a potential return to Switzerland but Wolves boss Bruno Lage decided to keep the Portugal Under-20 international around. However, Toti was handed his Wolves debut against Southampton on January 5 and shone in a 3-1 win in the Premier League.

He played the full 90 minutes against Brentford the following week but the return to fitness of Romain Saiss meant Toti was put on the substitute's bench. Toti has been on the bench for the past couple of games.

"This is a reward for Toti for the hard work he's put in while at the club, especially while on loan at Grasshoppers," Wolves' technical director Scott Sellars said after Toti penned a new contract until 2027. "He's worked very hard on his football and has really developed, then he got the opportunity to come to the club full time and has been excellent in everything he does.

"January was the first time he'd been to the club. "We'd watched him out on loan and admired what he was doing, so we gave him the opportunity to come back here in January, and from minute one he showed he's a professional and dedicated young man who works hard on his football.
