Bruno Fernandes admission should be a warning to his Manchester United teammates

It is not just Manchester United's collective struggles that are getting under the skin of Bruno Fernandes.

The Reds captain is also frustrated with his own below-par form, particularly in front of goal. He is yet to get off the mark for United this season, meaning he is now 15 games without a goal.

Ahead of Portugal's 3-1 win over Poland in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday, Fernandes addressed his goal drought, admitting he is failing to hit the high standards he sets himself.

He said: "As for the club, I want to improve as soon as I get there and make sure the goals start coming again. I have to take responsibility for that too, because I'm a midfielder who scores a lot of goals, and over the years, I've always been at a very high level in terms of goals and I have to live up to that, with those expectations.

"I also have my own standards, I don't hold back on that. I haven't scored for the club yet [this season] and I hope that as soon as I get there I can score and help the club get back to winning ways and to a good level."

Fernandes scored 15 times for United last season, only being outscored by Rasmus Hojlund, who went one better and ended the campaign with 16. Scoring goals has been United's biggest problem so far this season, highlighted by their tally of just five after their opening seven league games.
