Bromley 1 Torquay United 0 - ten man Gulls suffer first defeat

Torquay United lost for the first time in the National League this season 1-0 with the goal coming after they had gone down to 10 men at Bromley this evening. Central defender Ross Marshall saw red in the 62nd minute after the Gulls had soaked up a load of pressure - and 10 minutes later the home side made their breakthrough with substitute Louis Dennis scoring.

It was a disappointing result for the Gulls who drew their first game against Oldham Athletic, and beat FC Halifax Town 1-0 on Saturday, and with the injury problems manager Gary Johnson has faced so far, he could have done without Marshall getting himself suspended for the next three games with a silly challenge.

There were two changes to the team that won 1-0 at FC Halifax Town on Saturday with Ali Omar coming back into the defence after his game out with concussion for Shaun Donnellan, who wasn't on the bench, and Tommy Hughes, who replaced Asa Hall - so Dean Moxey was the captain.

Both Ryan Hanson and Ben Wyatt missed chances before a minute was up following a great Dylan Crowe run down the right and cross - and a touch by Tom Lapslie. Billy Bingham - not that one - had a 10th-minute shot saved by Mark Halstead and the Torquay goalkeeper made another stop from the rebound from Reece Hannam. Moxey then made a block from a Corey Whitely strike.

A deflected shot went wide from Hanson on 13 minutes. George Alexander hit the crossbar for Bromely a minute later. Halstead saved a shot from Chris Bush next. It was all Bromley. Bush headed over from the corner. Michael Cheek was next to miss the goal. Will Goodwin was offside when he put the ball into the net from a Lapslie ball - it was Torquay's best move of the match so far. Bromley goalkeeper Riece Charles-Cook
